Dayton UMC will be hosting the 2nd annual Dayton Dash on Saturday, October 22, 2011. Both the 5K and 10K races will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Dayton UM Church!


The funds raised by this event will go directly toward the cost of organizing the Upward Sports Basketball and Cheerleading programs offered at DUMC. Upward Sports, the world’s largest Christian sports program for children, was created with a vision to provide the best sports experience possible for every child. Each year some 1 million people around the world play, coach, referee, or volunteer in Upward Sports leagues and camps hosted by more than 2,600 churches. Specifically designed for children in K-6th grade, Upward Sports aims to bring out “the winner” in every child – regardless of the game’s score.

 


 

During the 2010-2011 season, 290 children and their families from all over Lafayette and surrounding counties participated in the DUMC Upward Sports program.


Here are the details of this year’s event:

 

  • 5K course is a fast and flat, out and back course with one small hill for a challenge.
  • 10K course is a scenic loop on the country roads of the Dayton area.
  • Traffic control will be provided on both courses.
  • Multiple water stops on courses.
  • Packet pickup on October 21st from 5-7:00 p.m. or on race day at DUMC.
  • Race day registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and ends at 9:00 a.m.
  • The 5K and 10K will start at 9:30 a.m.
  • The Kid’s Fun Run will begin at 10:45 a.m.
  • Races will be electronically timed and start and finish at the church.
  • T-shirts guaranteed to all pre-registered participants and provided to all other participants as available.
  • Awards presented to the top three male and female finishers in the 5K and 10K. Awards also presented to the top 3 finishers in each of 13 age group divisions.
  • Each child participating in the Fun Run will receive a finish line ribbon.
  • Refreshments provided after the race.
  • On-site medical care provided by local volunteer EMT’s.
