I usually don't fill out testimony endorsements...but I thought I would concerning this one! (Probably because you have a daughter who might be interested in basketball!)

If you aren't familiar with Upward Basketball at Dayton United Methodist Church please allow me to share a little...it is a fantastic program for boys and girls from kindergarten to 6th grade...they are especially looking to grow their girls' program! You don't have to be a member of the church to participate and many of us are not (us included). The program is run well by caring and generous people. There is a huge awards day at the end of the season where each of the participants receives a gift (it's been backpacks/an over-the-door basketball hoop/last year a regulation-size basketball) and I can't believe how the program has grown and how many kids are playing. As part of the registration fee the kids actually get entire basketball uniforms...reversible sleeveless shirt and shorts...the real thing! Each year the colors change.

All three of my kids have participated during the  past 3 or 4 years; the kids usually practice once a week and have a game on Saturday at the church or at Dayton Elementary (it's grown so much they can't get all the games in at the church gym!). Upward is a faith-based program and teaches good sportsmanship along with the fundamentals of basketball and/or cheerleading. (The cheerleading is fun, too...but I'm pushing the basketball program for the girls!) Some kids already have a lot of skill...others are playing for the first time. No matter what age. For the 6th graders this is also good because of the lack of sports at the middle school level.

Last year Wynne participated in Little Mavs AND Upward even though the timeline's coincided. I wanted her to do something affiliated with McCutcheon, but she loves Upward so much we had to do both!

If you have any questions please let me know...or visit the webpage! Please share this with anyone else you might know who is interested!

Have a great day,

Cathy Swick
