Then I Will...
When Jesus walked on our planet in flesh and blood, He demonstrated the character of God as a Healer. He healed the blind and the deaf. He healed the demon-possessed and the paralyzed. He raised the widow's son and the Roman official's daughter from the dead. He healed sin-sick souls by His forgiveness.
And Jesus promised to return one day to heal everything. He will make a new heaven and a new earth with no more sin or death or pain or sorrow! No one can heal what Jesus can heal. No hospital or government or homeopathic remedy or election can heal what's broken in our nation and our world. Only God can.
Until the day when everything is made new and eternity is ushered in, God has given us a powerful promise: If My people, who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV)
While this great promise was given originally to Israel, I believe it applies to any nation throughout all history which has believing people who will humble themselves, pray, seek His face and repent. And that includes our United States of America. As we pray and repent in humility, seeking God with all our heart, God promises to hear, forgive and heal!
I believe God is hearing the cries of His people on behalf of our nation during these days when we are being shaken by a pandemic, unemployment, a highly contentious election, and violence in the streets of our cities. I believe He will forgive as we repent on behalf of our nation for turning from Him, for 62 million abortions, for racism, and for materialism and greed.
And I believe God can heal our land through the outpouring of an Awakening in which people far from Him return to Him and have their lives transformed by holy love. Come, Holy Spirit! Please, please pour out the Awakening we long for!
Start with us, God. Start with your Church.
Second Chronicles 7:14 does not say if all people humble themselves. It does not say if the guilty people pray and seek My face. It does not say if government officials turn from wicked ways. It says if My people will pray to Me in humility and repentance, I will hear and forgive and heal.
Awakening begins with the followers of Jesus and with those who believe in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. And the deep, travailing prayers of God's people have been rising in crescendo, pouring out from the hearts of those who long for revival and healing.
I have hope. I anticipate the Awakening we are praying for. I believe God is going to do something new that will surprise and thrill us. Come, Holy Spirit! Come pour Yourself out on our beleaguered nation. Come bring the Awakening we long for. And let it start with me...
